Prom Update & Refunds 7/15/2020
Published by Jennifer Ivey on July 15, 2020
.........................................................................................................................................

When we first closed school due to Covid-19 and events were being cancelled, because we didn’t want our Cape Fear High School seniors to miss out on prom their senior year, we postponed and rescheduled this event two different times. The most recent rescheduled date was July 30th. This was done hoping as a state we would move through the reopening phases, and that the number of attendees able to attend large group gatherings would increase and we would be able to host prom.

Unfortunately, during yesterday’s press conference, Governor Cooper kept North Carolina in Phase 2, which allows only 10 people to attend an indoor event and only 25 attendees allowed at an outside event. By staying in Phase 2, there is no way we will be able to hold Prom on July 30th. This decision was not made without careful consideration and I am so sorry that seniors will not get to attend their senior prom. Luckily, The Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, our DJ, and our Caterer, graciously are allowing us to apply what we have paid to next year’s prom, but we will not be refunded what we have paid.

Here is how we will be handling refunds/credit:

Senior Dues
Last year Cape Fear High School gave the Junior Class the incentive that if they paid their junior dues for prom, they would not have to pay their senior dues, and would be able to attend prom for free their senior year. Because they paid last year, attended prom last year, and did not make a payment this year, they will not be eligible for a refund.
Seniors that did not pay junior dues last year, but paid their senior dues this year, will receive a prorated refund. Senior dues also cover the senior breakfast (which was held), senior t-shirt (which students received), and also graduation programs, cords, awards, and graduation tickets. Seniors that did not pay junior dues last year but paid senior dues this year are eligible for a prorated $15 refund, or they can donate it as a gift to the school.

Senior Prom Guest Application Fee
Although it says on the application that it is non-refundable, if you were a senior and your guest was approved, then you are eligible to receive a refund for this or you can donate it as a gift to the school. If your guest was denied, then you would not receive a refund.

Junior Dues
Juniors that paid their dues this year, will have that dues credited for their senior dues and they will not have to pay to attend prom this coming school year.

Junior Prom Guest Application Fee
Juniors who paid (and their guest was approved) will have credit to apply towards the prom guest application fee next year or they can donate it as a gift to the school.

We realize these are trying times, and if you are having a financial hardship and you absolutely need the money instead of the credit, please feel free to contact us.

To receive a credit, you do not have to do anything and we will automatically apply it to your account for next year. If you have any questions with the requirements above, please contact christyparker@ccs.k12.nc.us.
